Financial Assistance

The Colonel John Haynes Trust support current and former members of the Royal Australian Armoured Corps (RAAC) and their immediate family though the provision of financial grants for welfare, education and development.

Application Guidance

Types of Applications

The Trust will consider applications for the grant of financial assistance to eligible person(s) for the following:


Welfare - Grants of up to $2,000 are available for  welfare support where the beneficiary requires urgent assistance for an immediate need and where no funds are available from government or other entities. 


Education, Development and Support - Grants of up to $4,000 per year will be provided annually for Education and Development as well as for projects/activities that provide Support to eligible individuals or groups. Applications will be considered for multi-year grants.


Note:  Funding may be awarded for education and course related expenses other than the payment of HECS-HELP fees/debts as well as other activities which enable the development or support for individuals or groups of eligible beneficiaries.

Application Timelines

Welfare applications may be submitted at any time.  Applicants are advised to make contact with the Trust as soon as possible when making a Welfare application to ensure that it meets the  eligibility requirements and facilitate a prompt consideration.


Applications for financial grants  for Education, Support and Development will be considered on an annual basis. 

  • Applications open online from 1 July
  • Applications close by 30 October
  • Outcomes of the application process will be announced in mid-November
  • Funds will be distributed to successful applicants by 31 December

Who can make an Application

Applications can be prepared and submitted by the beneficiary or another person on their behalf.


Note: The beneficiary must be eligible for the grant of funding, not the applicant. 


Applications made by an Organisation on behalf of an individual or group, should provide details of the organisation and the position held by the person making the application. 

Eligibility

In accordance with the terms of the Trust, a grant of financial assistance may be made to individuals and organisations for the benefit of a person (s) who is:

  • A serving or ex-serving members of the Royal Australian Armoured Corps (RAAC), whether Regular, Reserve or National Service members of the Corps, and
  •  their issue to two generations (ie: children and grandchildren), and their step-children, spouses, widows and widowers. 


* Applicants will need to be able to provide corroborated details of service by the member  together with evidence of their relationship to the service member where applicable

Referee

Applications will need to provide details of an independent referee.


The Referee will be required to provide a declaration that the information contained in the application is correct.

Government and Other Financial Assistance

Applicants will need to provide details of the beneficiary's eligibility and receipt of financial assistance from government an other entities.   Applicants should provide supporting documents to verify the financial assistance being provided. 

Funding Details

Applicants will need to provide a breakdown of how the proposed funds will be used.  Applicants should provide supporting documents to verify the costs (eg: electricity, gas, water bills for immediate welfare applications; education or course costs)

Submission

Completed applications should be printed, signed and scanned then submitted to enquiries@haynestrust.org. Applications can also be submitted through the Contacts page on this website. 

Acquittal of Grants

Successful applicants who receive a grant of financial assistance will be required to provide the Trust with evidence that funds have been used for the purpose for which they have been provided.  This is a required in order for the Trust to meet its governance obligations to the Australian Charities & Not for Profit Commission (ACNC).

Assessment of Applications

  It is inevitable that not every application will be able to be supported as there is a finite sum of funds available for distribution, but the Trustees will do their best to provide support where it is most needed.  Each application for the award of financial grants for Education, Development and Support will be assessed against the eligibility criteria as well as the value of the proposal and the benefit to be derived by the beneficiary.
